On Thursday, a potentially historic agreement between Israel and Hamas began to take shape. The deal, brokered by President Trump, secures the exchange of all Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners. We ended the war in Gaza and really, on a much bigger basis, created peace. And I think it's going to be a lasting peace, hopefully an everlasting peace.
The peace deal negotiation between Trump and Netanyahu involves Arab leadership in the Gaza Strip, but Netanyahu has resisted withdrawing IDF troops.
Despite a ceasefire, Israel retains 53% of Gaza, and there are concerns they will not withdraw, as they aim to incorporate parts of Gaza into Greater Israel.
The revised peace deal allows Israel to maintain control over Gaza, which is likely to be rejected by Hamas and used as justification for further conflict.
The Israeli cabinet has approved an agreement to stop the war in Gaza. This agreement includes Israel pulling back to a predefined border and the release of 20 live hostages and 28 dead hostages within 72 hours of a ceasefire. Hamas claims this is the end of the war, but the United States says it could be if Hamas disarms and hands over governance.
Hamas accepted the first phase of the Gaza peace plan brokered by the Trump team, and Israel's government was doing the same. If successful, the IDF will pull back to a designated perimeter, and Hamas will release the remaining hostages.
